What Do We Think is Important?

Explanation - We believe that it is important that our students develop the skills of being life long learners, that they can learn, unlearn and relearn as they go through life. We also consider it valuable for our students to be able to lead, both themselves and others. This may involve them leading those younger or their peers, whether it be in cultural, sporting, school service or academic activity. We want them to learn about leadership and develop their own style.


Our children:

  • Know how to look after their wellbeing
  • Know themselves and others
  • Care for and protect our land
  • Will be confident and make an impact

Explanation - Our community contributed through the consultation in terms 3 & 4, 2018 these ideas. They are unpacked below in more detail.

Our Values

  • Manaakitanga - We care, show kindness and respect
  • Whanaungatanga - We learn together to ensure we can bring out the best in each and all of us
  • Kaitiakitanga - We care for our possessions, school, community and wider world
  • Rangatiratanga - We are self directed and confident learners.

Explanation - These values underpin how we act and what we believe is important. As teachers we have responsibility to encourage, model and explore these values with our students.


Our children have skills for lifelong learning. They:

  • Can read, write, speak and share their ideas and views creatively and effectively
  • Has mathematical problem solving skills 
  • Can think critically, ask good questions and follow a line of inquiry
  • Know how they best learn
  • Have growing financial literacy

Our children know how to look after their wellbeing. They:

  • Understand the importance of being active, eating well and having sufficient rest
  • Are developing their resilience and risk taking
  • Are developing passions and interests
  • Can form positive relationships
  • Can make sensible choices 
  • Can look after themselves and their possessions
  • Can stay digitally safe

Our children know themselves and others. They:

  • Have a strong sense of who they are and where they belong
  • Are culturally aware and value diversity
  • Can set goals and have aspirations
  • Understand and can manage their own emotions
  • Know how to collaborate with others  
  • Can work on tasks independently 

Our children care for and protect our land. They:

  • Understand environmental impact and sustainability
  • Know about New Zealand’s unique flora and fauna
  • Know the history and importance of our local environment

Our children will be confident and make a impact. They will:

  • Explore the many roles  and opportunities of leadership across the school 
  • Develop a sense of community and citizenship
  • Be problem solvers and take action to make a difference
  • Learn to speak up and share their point of view
