Week 7 Term 1 2025

Tena koutou e te whānau, ngā mihi o te wā ngahuru ki a koutou.

Greetings to you all. The season change is upon us with the change of colours at the top of our acorn trees. However the weather is still warm and the sun is still hot, so PLEASE ensure your child(ren) continues to bring a water bottle to school and a school hat to wear EVERY DAY. It has been another great start to the school year and we are well and truly into the swing of school life.

NGĀ ARA MĀTAURANGA - LEARNING PATHWAYS

Over the next 10 weeks our learning context, for which the curriculum learning areas are delivered, will be focussed on the maunga (mountain) Kahurānaki. Kahurānaki is a significant maunga to the iwi (tribe/ people) of Ngāti Kahungunu. Did you know that Kahurānaki’s elevation is 645m.

Swimming Sports

This year we moved our year 3-6 swimming sports event from Frimley pools to Flaxmere Aquatic Centre. The tamariki competed well throughout the day and gave it their all! The indoor facility was really warm but everyone showed resilience as we navigated through that - ngā mihi koutou katoa. We were impressed with the amount of whānau who came to support this kaupapa. We had so many stand out performances throughout the day but what we enjoyed the most was seeing our tamariki give it a go. The event finished with a staff vs students relay. This was an even battle, but the teachers took it out in the end!

HERETAUNGA TAKOTO NOA CAMPS

Recently, our Heretaunga Takoto Noa whānau have been out to Camp Tukituki. Each duplex space has completed a three day and two night camp.

This is a new location for us, but we have enjoyed being local and visiting some of our local treasures. The purpose of the camp is whanaungatanga and to move the classroom from an indoor setting to an outdoor setting. The tamariki were challenged, took part in new learning and enjoyed being together as a class. So many highlights happen throughout each camp and memories made for a lifetime.

A big mihi to our kaiako for organising such a big event and to our whānau helpers.

Message from Nurse Wendy

Please ensure ALL UNIFORM IS NAMED CORRECTLY.

If you are aware that we are still waiting on forms to be signed or any other documentation such as birth certificates and immunisations, please get these to the office ASAP. We are still waiting on some forms from 2023/2024! Any borrowed uniform also needs to be returned.

Please remember to send a water bottle and a piece of fruit for brainfood with your child/ren’s every single day.

IF your child/ren’s are unwell, please keep them home and let the office know either by text: 027-351-9488 or leaving a message on the absentee answer phone: 878-8757, press 1 to leave a message. PLEASE do this before 8.50am.

Covid is still in the community so please test your tamariki if they are unwell.

Child Safety/Parking

  • Parking can be a challenge from time to time but we have more than one choice for pick up, we have 2 gate entrances. One of Frimley Road and the back gate on Ikanui Road.

  • There are yellow lines and ORANGE cones that are used to mark NO PARKING areas. HELP US to keep YOUR tamariki safe by NOT parking in these areas.

WHĀNAU ASPIRATIONS ~ Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th March

This is an opportunity for whānau to come in and spend time in class with your tamariki and their kaiako. Our kaiako (teachers) want to hear your goals and aspirations for your tamariki. They will also want to share what they have learnt about your child and the goals they have for them as well. This is a VERY IMPORTANT time to connect/ reconnect with you all.

REMINDER: School will finish at 12pm on THURSDAY to allow kaiako a break before beginning at 1pm. All tamariki will go home or need to be collected from school.

School will finish at usual time Wednesday at 2:50pm.

Easter Raffle

On Friday 14th we are having a mufti day. Please bring along an Easter treat to add to our world famous Easter Raffle Baskets. This year we are fundraising to replace the sun shade in our school pool.

IF you do not want your child to participate in selling raffle cards, please return the opt out form by Friday 14th April.

Attendance

Every minute of the school day is important to your child's learning and more importantly to their relationships with their kaiako and classmates. Therefore it is important we work together to ensure our tamariki are at school every day.

If your child is sick or is going to be away from school, please contact the school office 8788 757.
