Kia ora e te whānau

Tēnā koutou e te whānau o tā tātou kura.

We are well into our first term and have begun positively with happy, healthy tamariki. It is great to see our tamariki arrive at kura every day with big smiles. Thank you for the way you support your tamariki to have a positive day at kura. It’s those basic things such as: a good night's sleep, breakfast and a happy start to the day that make a day of learning possible. E mihi ana ki a koutou e te whānau.

School Values

During our first few weeks of school our focus is on growing, practising and showing our school values of Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Rangatiratangi and Kaitiakitanga. Our values underpin how we interact and connect with one another so we work hard to ensure our tamariki and kaiako are living our school values every day.

Stationery

All tamariki received their stationery at the beginning of the year. Payments for stationery can be made at our school office or via online payment: ASB Hastings 12-3145-0158822-02 Reference - Child’s Name.

Heretaunga ararau - $20

Heretaunga haukū nui - $35

Heretaunga haaro o te kaahu - $35

Heretaunga takoto noa - $30

Extra $4 for a new book bag

Hero

We have been using this SMS system for a few months and we have noticed that a number of our whānau have not downloaded the app, or have their current email on our system. All school and classroom communication will be going through HERO, so we need ALL whānau to either download the app or access it through a web browser. If you need support please talk to your child's teacher or come into Te Kōrihi (Office) for support.

A Message From Nurse Wendy

Kia ora whānau!

Just a few quick reminders to help us keep everyone healthy, organized, and ready to learn:

  1. Label, Label, Label! Please double-check that every piece of uniform (especially polor fleeces and hats) is clearly named so lost items can find their way back home.

  2. The 48-Hour Rule: If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they must remain at home until they are 48 hours clear from the last episode. This is crucial to stop bugs spreading to classmates and staff.

  3. Fuel for Learning: Please remember to pack a filled water bottle and some healthy "brain food" (fruit or vegetables) every day. Hydration and good nutrition help keep those little minds sharp!

Thanks for your support in keeping our school safe and happy.

Our School Leaders spent their first leadership development day together at Houngarea Marae with Whaea Tania, Matua Luke and Mr Pearse. A pūrākau of Tanewhaorangi and Te Ikahaungāta was shared connecting us to Houngarea Marae. The pūrākau shared was an example of what rangatiratanga would have looked like many years ago. We had a great wānanga about that leadership and made connections to leadership now. We did team building activities that encouraged the tamariki to consider the roles of a team and particularly within leadership; focus on our qualities as leaders and then something we want to develop over the year. It was a great day of rangatiratanga in action ~ TU AKE NEI

Staff Only Day - SCHOOL CLOSED

Staff will be involved in professional development at Houngarea Marae on Friday 6th March so SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED. Staff will spend the day further unpacking the new English and Mathematics Curriculum. Thank you for your support.

Sunhats

All students must wear a school sun hat when they are outside their classrooms during term 1. You can purchase a school sun hat from the office ($12 each).

Please make sure they are named.

Whanāu Aspirations 25th/ 26th February 3:30-6:30pm

We are looking forward to connecting with you all next Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th February at our Whānau Aspirations. This is an opportunity for whānau to spend time in class with their child/ren to talk with the kaiako about what aspirations you may have for them. It is another opportunity for home and school to work together, to set goals with the kaiako and for the kaiako to learn more about your child and whānau.

Manaaki Tamariki

Our Manaaki Tamariki Kaupapa are up and running for 2026. This is a very special kaupapa that our kura initiated 4 years ago to further support our tamariki to achieve Tū Ake Nei - for them to stand strong, proud and confident in their language, culture and identity. Within the seven different kaupapa we have tukutuku. One of our kaiawhina Pare Rota works with a group of girls to learn the art of tukutuku. The rōpu spent the afternoon at Houngarea Marae on Tuesday to look at the tututuku in the whare; to get some ideas and motivation for their own designs.

Swimming Sports

Last week on Thursday we held our annual swimming sports event at the Clive War Memorial Pool. This was the first time running this event at this venue and it was awesome. The team at Clive pools were great and the facility was perfect for our event. We had a number of outstanding students who took on the competitive races. It was fantastic to see so many children give it a go and having fun. We have a team of 22 students going to the inter-school event at the end of February.
