Reflections 2009
Our shared writing based on the story "That's Good That's Bad" by Margery Cuyle.
Each person in the class had to think about the things we have done this year then write about their experiences in the style of "That's Good, That's Bad." We tried to stick exactly to what happened but like all good authors didn't let the truth get in the way of a good story.
Back in February we had fun at Beach Education and Zoe learned heaps. "That's Good!" No, that's bad because James thought some of the floating logs looked like whales. Luckily, he still went in the water. "That's Good!"
On Camp Day Lawrance was really excited working with the Parachute. Sam was busy making damper (scones) on the hobo stoves. "That's Good!" Unfortunately Bevan accidentally used his hand to pick them up and got burned! "That's Bad." No that's good because his arm eventually grew back.
For art we invented our own name bugs for art. That's Good - No that's bad because Eden messed up the start of hers. Luckily she sorted it out after that. When we coloured our self-portraits, Daniel did such an excellent job that his picture went on the wall in the office. That's good.
Georgia really enjoyed World Maths Day! She spent a long time on the computer answering fact questions against kids from around the world. That's Bad! No, that's good because it was fun winning with lots of right answers.
During term one Harmony liked class swimming a lot. It was lots of fun blowing bubbles and pool racing each session. That's good. Unfortunately we always had to get out too soon. That's bad. Our first inter-house competition was Capture the Flag and Jaden played for the Mighty Lyndhurst House. "That's Good!" Yes - he kept tagging his best friend Jacob. But ... Jacob was getting pretty mad by the end of the game. That's Bad.
Back in Term 2, Andrew and Stewart went to a 7-a-side soccer tournament in Napier. The Year 4 Phoenix came first. "That's Good!" No that's bad because they wouldn't stop going on about it for a week! Tia loved going to Netball and having her mum as coach - That's Good. Megan was happy to be playing with her friends in the team. "That's Good!" No that's bad because some people were too busy chatting on court (not Megan) instead of watching the game.
At the Disco Jade danced delightedly with the others. "That's Good!" No, that's bad - because she kept falling over! In Term 2 we worked with the footnote dancers. Selena's group made themselves into a bunny! That's good because, Zoe was the head and Selena was the food bowl.
We learned back-hand throws and crocodile catching during our ultimate frisbee work. Jesse was great at both. "That's Good!" Unfortunately Harkamaljit needed more work on his practicing because he got hit in the eyebrow. Ouch! That's bad. As part of our work we had a writing kit that kids could use to write stuff. "That's Good!" Reagan made bookmarks awards and drew lots of pictures. She really liked hunting out all the different card and pens to use each day.
Science was cool for Kane because he was happy to make the helicopters - That’s good! No that’s bad because they kept flying into peoples’ faces.
During the school cross-country Ethan flew around the 5 lap course - That’s Good! No that’s bad as he had to work really hard to keep ahead of Stewart and Sam.
During term 3 Room 14 spent a lot of time making water rockets - How Cool! - Keenan was busy making fins and gluing them on - “That’s Good!” No that’s bad. When we launched them the fins broke off and the rockets went all over the place. Some of the junior kids thought the aliens were coming.
Keid liked privilege time each term because we all got free time, sports and different things to do.He particularly enjoyed the sports. That’s good - as long as you earned the privilege. If you didn’t then you had to do work in silence with Mr Sisam - That’s bad.
Aiyleen felt the sausage sizzles were nice this year because everybody got a hot, delicious sausage. It was hard to wait your turn though. William was great at running, ripping and passing for rippa rugby. Awesome. He side stepped and landed over the try line. That’s good. Stewart played for the school at Barefoot Tens Rugby. It was tough ‘cause he is small. He got winded and just about knocked out. Ooh... that’s bad. No that’s good because he was so good at the basics he scored heaps of trys!
We walked to the helicopter hangar and met pilot Brent. Mami thought it was cool looking in the helicopters. That’s good. Unfortunately, when Brent turned one of the helicopters on av-gas poured onto the ground. That’s bad and it smelled bad!
On Book Character Day Natalie loved dressing up as a witch. That’s Bad - no that’s good because she didn’t cast any spells.
During Girls High P.E. Caitlin was learning how to stop a hockey ball. That’s Good! - No that’s bad because Harkamaljit was still learning when the ball hit him on his foot! (Caitlin can’t remember who hit it to him.)
For athletics, Matthew worked on the ultimate strategy for shot-put - that’s good. No, that’s bad because you could pull a shoulder muscle if you messed it up. Matt reckons he’s going to ace it.
It was really hot at tabloids when Xanthia went to the sports stadium. That’s good. She was so busy running, skipping and throwing bean bags that she forgot her water bottle. That’s bad but, it was great at the end because Frimley won!
Of course we did lots of other stuff this year like cycling, spelling, buddy class, maths, writing and fitness but if we keep on going we’ll run out of internet. It was a busy but exciting year.
