Hawke Cup Rippa Rugby

It was a beautiful day on Friday 27 May for 10 selected children to represent Frimley in the Hawke Packaging Cup Rippa Rugby Tournament. To have any chance of winning we had to play two pool games, a quarter final, semi final, and final. We played TKKM and Riverslea in our pool matches. After a slow start against TKKM in our first game of the day, we got our act together and started to pile on the points, and beat both teams comfortably. We won our pool and made the quarter finals. In the quarter final we played St Joseph's. It was a slightly closer battle, which we won to make the semi. The semi was a very tough game against Peterhead. Despite our rests, and taking in food for energy, we were starting to get tired. After turning a couple Peterhead mistakes into tries, we went into half time ahead 6-4. The second half saw Peterhead catch-up very quickly and it was a see-saw battle for the rest of the game. Final score 10-9 to Frimley - we made the final. Parkvale, our strongest sporting rivals, were our opponents in the final. We started strongly and shot out to a 2 try lead. Parkvale were were very well organised on attack and defence and slowly caught up to Frimley and took a 3-2 lead into half time. We had a good talk at half time to sort out a few attack and defence issues. It worked and we were able to make some strong breaks and score some tries. The game ended 6 all - 2 minutes of extra time. The 2 minutes went quickly with both teams scoring 1 try each. Sudden death extra time, first team to score wins. Unfortunately, Parkvale scored. Our winning streak had come to and end. We were devastated. Congratulations to Parkvale. It was a great day, and our team played extremely well - all parents, coaches, and supporters are extremely proud of your efforts team!
