Room 18 - 2010

Welcome to Room 18's page.

Here we are setting off to the sand dunes with our boogie boards ready to tackle the almighty dunes at Camp Akitio!

3, 2, 1 Woosh!

Kite Day

As all shapes and sizes are flowing through the sky.
The warm spring breeze is winding its way through my scalp.
The sound of the kids cheers and cries are rummaging through my ears.
My eyes are following a hypnotising swirl
PING! SMACK! OUCH!
Diamonds are crashing towards the ground like a lions roar.
We reel in the string and head back to school.
What a kite day!

CAMP AKITIO 2010 - Reflecting

Fishing
In term one we went to camp where we went fishing. I heard the river flowing, and I saw heaps of fish being caught, but most of the fish were small. After morning tea we went fishing again. I tried to catch a fish but I couldn’t.

A Fishy Kiss
“I’ve got one!” Most of us looked.
“That is tinny,” some people muttered.
We had gone fishing. It was a hot day at Akitio. We were all on the bridge trying our best to catch some fish, but we weren’t very good at it!
Shania caught the biggest fish of the day. I kissed two fish (it is supposed to be good luck.) My first kiss was NOT what I expected!
It was a fun day, but we were all tired, especially from the long walk back. It was great to hop into the shower.

The Great Akitio Treasure Hunt
The Treasure Hunt was fun, but tiring at the same time. We followed clues around the camp area and  Akitio, which lead us to the beach, where we had to find a CD cover buried in the sand. So much sand was shifted trying to find it. The case was numbered which told us what mystery envelope we got and our treasure. I loved it.

Seal Found Washed Up
Room 18 students from Frimley Primary School thought they were going on a normal camp week at Akitio, but at the sand dunes they were in for a big surprise – a mammal washed up on the beach.
It looked like a rock, but when they got closer they discovered a seal just sunbathing in the sand. The seal was disturbed by the students and immediately dove straight into the ocean.
A parent, Mr Hapi wanted to play with the seal and went for a swim with it.
Students were ready to pack up and head back to camp and were prepared for a fun night ahead of them. They could not sleep that night as they kept on thinking of names for the seal they saw.

Touch on the sand
A few students and parents from Room 18, Frimley Primary School, Hastings were enjoying their camp at Akitio Beach playing Touch recently. They had an exhausting day going down the sand dunes and wanted to finish off the day playing a game. Both students and parents thought it was a great idea to finish off the day.
