FRIMLEY SCHOOL
Candidate Profiles from the successful representatives
Ian Horsefield - Chairperson
Being Hawkes Bay born and bred, married to Maree for 15 years and
with 2 children at Frimley School, Michaela year 6 and Sam year 4, this
is my chance to make sure that there are opportunities for children at
Frimley to grow and learn to become great members of our community.
I am currently employed full time at F.L.Bone & Son Ltd, which
itself is a Hawkes Bay icon. Being part of a small to medium size
company lends itself to my being involved in all aspects of importing,
exporting, marketing and day to day running of the business giving me a
varied range of skills that I can use as a board member including many
of the principles from the Dale Carnegie courses that I have completed.
I have had involvement with hockey for many years as a player, coaching
& committee at all levels from club (Akina), provincial (Hawkes Bay
& Auckland) and national levels. I have also had involvement with
cricket, swimming and triathlon organizations recently completing a
couple of half ironman events and Ironman 2010.
Organising a Relay For Life team previously has been very fulfilling
also coaching rugby with Hastings Rugby & Sports.
I am a logical thinker, well rounded in many aspects of life.As a member
of the current Board of Trustees, I believe it is imperative that we
have some sort of continuation from current to new board.
Paula Richardson - Secretary
My name is Paula Richardson, my husband Antony and I have lived in
Frimley for over 10 years. We have 6 year old triplets who are extremely
happy in their second year at Frimley School.
My nomination for the Frimley School Board of Trustees supports a strong
desire to be involved in our children’s upbringing and education. This
is a natural progression from my previous roles as the President of the
Hawke’s Bay Multiple Birth Club (a two year term commencing in 2006) and
then as Secretary of Camberley Kindergarten Committee in 2007/2008.
My country upbringing saw me attended a small rural School, followed by
five years at Secondary School and on to Massey University where I
gained a Bachelor of Business Studies majoring in Management.
During and following Antony’s and my time spent overseas I established a
career in IT (Information Technology). I held various Help Desk
positions while Temp working in London. Upon our return to New Zealand
and up until our children were born I was working as IT Administrator
and later on IT Manager for a medium size Property Consultancy Company
in Napier. This role required a commitment to service and a calm and
organised approach to problem solving.
My husband Antony is a Craftsman Plumber and Drainlayer, we established
our own Company in 2005. This created the perfect opportunity for me to
be a ‘stay at home mum’. I mange the office and Company accounts, a role
which sees me working from home but still able to make myself available
when required at school.
I have attended meetings with the current BOT for an insight into the
requirements of Board members. On each occasion I felt comfortable and
confident of my abilities.
In summary, below is a list of skills I can offer as a BOT candidate;
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Proficient in time management
• Excellent communication skills - both oral and written
• Experience with accounts, office administration, computer systems,
personnel management and recruitment
• Easy going and approachable personality
• Sense of humour
• Time to give 100%
Carl Allen
My name is Carl Allen. I am married to Mrs Lynda Allen (staff member
at Frimley school) and we have an 8 year old daughter Kate in Year 4.
I am standing for the Board of Trustees Parent Representative because I
have a strong belief that every child deserves the opportunity to
achieve their potential and be the best they can be. I am a true
supporter and believer in Frimley Primary School and the opportunities
and education that is provided for our children. I would like to show my
support and be involved in the governance of the school at Board level.
I am a Registered Nurse in Intensive Care and a Flight Nurse for the
Hawkes Bay District Health Board.
I am a current member of the Air Ambulance Trust that advocates funding
of important services for the people of Hawkes Bay. I am also the
current President of Stortford Lodge Rotary Club.
I have a commitment to good communication, leadership, organisational
and problem solving skills. I believe I am trustworthy, patient, and
sensitive to the needs of other people. I have an understanding and
caring nature that supports individual needs of whom I confront. I am a
reliable, outgoing man with a sense of humour.
If elected as a parent representative on the Board of Trustees at
Frimley Primary School, I will represent the Parent Body to the best of
my ability.
Cedric Knowles
I have 2 children at Frimley School, Katie in year 6 and Mitchell in
Year 4, with Maggie still to come in 2012 and Bradley having left in
2009. I have been married to Toni for 15 years and we are both Hawke’s
Bay born and educated.
As well as being in business as an accountant at Knowledge Accountants,
we own or part-own a number of other local businesses, including Frimley
Playhouse Early Childhood Centre, a Hastings-based call centre, and an
export manufacturing business.
I am a trustee of the Community Foundation Hawke’s Bay, founder and
chair of Sportslink Charitable Trust and administrator of the Jarrod
Cunningham Youth Trust. I have also been treasurer of Hastings Rugby
& Sports Club since its formation in 1996, as well as a junior
coach, manager and committee member, and a part of the building and
fundraising committee for the recently completed Ellwood Park Events
Centre.
As an accountant and business owner, with strong community involvement
and experience dealing with both the Ministry of Education and Education
Review Office, I believe I can make a useful contribution to Frimley
School. My aim is to see Frimley School maintain its excellent culture
of attitude, action and achievement among staff and students.
Carl Pedersen
My name is Carl and I am a married man with my youngest child,
Charlize, having just finished her primary schooling at Frimley and
moving on to intermediate level. My wife and I also care for a 10
year old who started the last two years of her primary school education
at Frimley this year.
I am a retired man but in retirement am involved in a number of casual
work activities which include:
• Project manager for building and maintenance of coolstores for a
local company.
• Quad Bike adventure rides manager and tour guide at Cape
Kidnappers.
• Owner/operator of Shots Inc, a claybird shooting activity for
events and corporate functions.
I am involved in the community in a number of voluntary roles which
include:
• Chairperson of COGS (Community funding scheme) Kahungunu Ki
Heretaunga COGS LDC.
• Board member of the Hawkeíªs Bay Lotteries Board (Ministerial
Appointment).
• Treasurer of the Hastings Hearing Association.
• Board member of the National COGS Committee.
I have been on the Frimley Primary School Board of Trustees for the last
two terms (6 years) and am standing again for election to the Board of
Trustees as a parent representative. In my time on the board we have
seen many changes and enhancements to the School including the
construction of the new classrooms.
From experience it actually takes a good year to properly settle into
the role of a parent representative on the Board particularly to get an
understanding of the terminology used and one things that needs to be
seriously considered is the difference between the role of governance
and that of management.
